REDS Win At X And Dal
(HALIFAX, NS) After going down a goal early on, the UNB REDS rallied to beat the Dalhousie Tigers 6-3 on Saturday night, completing a sweep of weekend road games.
The REDS won 5-1 at STFX on Friday.
Uncharacteristically on Saturday, the REDS surrendered an early goal to the Tigers but bounced back to lead 3-2 after 20 minutes.
UNB added two in the second period, including a short-handed marker by Camaryn Baber (Sault Ste. Marie, ON), and another in the third.
Baber finished the night with a goal and two assists. Emmett Sproule (Collingwood, ON) also had a goal and two assists.
Kale McCallum (Rothesay, NB) and Sam McGinley (Calgary, AB) each had a goal and an assist.
“Kale had a solid outing both nights and was a difference-maker,” said REDS head coach Rob Hennigar. “And Sam had his best weekend of the second half.”
“On Saturday, we went down a goal early but found a way to come through.”
Sean McGurn (Ottawa, ON) had two assists Saturday and Michael Petizian (Mississauga, ON) and Nico Savoie (Dieppe, NB) each score goals. Remi Delafontaine (Sherbrooke, QC) made 15 saves on 18 shots in the REDS’ net.
On Friday, McGurn and Cole Huckins (Upper Kingsclear, NB) each had a goal and an assist as the REDS beat the X-Men in Antigonish.
McCallum, Baber, and Oscar Plandowski (Halifax, NS) also scored, and Samuel Richard (Ste. Catherine, QC) made 11 saves on just a dozen shots on goal.
“Friday night, everyone bought in and played hard,” said Coach Hennigar. “It was nice to get the win there and play simple, hard hockey.”
“We played well defensively on Friday, allowing just twelve shots on net,” he added. “Everyone bought into the game plan.”
With the wins, the REDS are now 26-1-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and remain first in the Atlantic University Sport stanings.
Next on the REDS’ schedule, the annual Mark Jeffrey Memorial Game. That goes Wednesday night, at 7:00pm, when the UPEI Panthers visit the Aitken Centre.
