REDS add forward Elliott
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS, defending U SPORTS and Atlantic University Sport champions, are naming forward and native New Brunswicker Drew Elliott to their recruiting class of 2024.
“It means a lot for me to be joining the UNB REDS, being from New Brunswick and getting to play with my home province university,” said the Musquash native.
He’s signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 AUS season.
“Fans are going to love Drew and the style he plays,” said REDS’ head coach Rob Hennigar. “He’s high energy, plays fast, and competes hard. He has great details and loves playing the game.”
Elliott played 258 regular season games with Baie-Comeau, Charlottetown, Drummondville, and Saint John of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League between 2019 and the end of the 2023-24 season.
He registered 100 points, scoring 47 goals and 53 assists.
In 2022, he attended rookie and development camps with the Arizona Coyotes of the National Hockey League.
“UNB was the most attractive of my options,” said Elliott. “I’ve heard so many great things about the REDS. I believe this is the opportunity for me to grow personally and as a hockey player.”
“Drew will play a big role for our team this season,” said Hennigar. “His passion and work ethic will be a big asset for our group. His ability to drag others into the battle is something we coveted.”
Elliott says his game is based on hard work and determination.
“I play a physical game,” he said. “My work ethic is high, and I really focus on being the best teammate possible. I’ll try my best, day in and day out, to bring all these factors to the group.”
Being from southern New Brunswick, Elliott is familiar with current REDS Kale McCallum and Nick Blagden, and says both helped sell him on joining the reigning champs.
Elliott will study Business while attending UNB.
