(MONCTON, NB) The UNB REDS wrapped up their 2024-25 Atlantic University Sport men's hockey regular season with a dominant 4-1 win over the Aigles Bleus, in Moncton, on Saturday night.
Jax Dubois (Ottawa, ON) scored twice, including one into an empty net, to lead the REDS while Cole Huckins (Upper Kingsclear, NB) assisted on a pair.
With the win, UNB finishes the regular season schedule with a 28-1-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) record and atop the AUS standings.
"It was a solid night and nice to finish with a hard-fought win," said REDS' head coach Rob Hennigar. "Our penalty kill was exceptional, having to kill off two 5-on-3s and our power-play scored three times."
Samuel Richard (Ste. Catherine, QC) made 30 saves on 31 shots on Saturday.
Peter Reynolds (Fredericton, NB) and Cody Morgan (Gilford, ON) also scored for the REDS.
"The guys are finding new ways to win and pushing hard every day in practice," added Coach Hennigar.
There were five UNB skaters in the top six in the AUS scoring race, with UNB's Emmett Sproule (Collingwood, ON) finishing three points back of Derek Gentile (Sydney, NS) of the Saint Mary's Huskies.
Benjamin Corbeil (Granby, QC) and Reynolds tied for third with 40 points each, while Kale McCallum (Rothesay, NB) led all defencemen in scoring with 39 points.
Richard led the AUS with a 21-2 record and a U SPORTS-best 1.48 goals against average.
The REDS have clinched a first round playoff bye and await a to-be-determined opponent in the AUS semi-finals. That series will begin Thursday, February 27th, at 7:00pm, at UNB's Aitken Centre.
