REDS Finish Regular Season With W

(MONCTON, NB) Simon Pinard (Drummondville, QC) scored three goals to lead the UNB REDS in a 7-1 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Saturday.

The win, in the Atlantic University Sport regular season finale for both teams, improved UNB's record to 24-4-1-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL).

Moncton is now 11-17-1-1 and finishes sixth in the league.

UNB finishes atop the AUS standings for the 15th consecutive season.

The REDS were quick to show their strength with back-to-back first period goals by Pinard, named Subway Player of the Game, at 5:43 and 8:58.

The REDS led 2-0 after one period.

UNB started the middle period on a high note with a first goal just 22 seconds in by Macauley Carson (Midhurst, ON).

With less than two minutes remaining, Camaryn Baber (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) scored his team's fourth goal.

With the Aigles Bleus working a two-man advantage, the home team managed to score. The goal came at 19:50 of the second, scored by Nathaël Roy (Levis, QC).

In the final period, the REDS got goals from Benjamin Corbeil (Granby, QC), Cody Morgan (Gilford, ON) on the power-play, and Pinard's third of the game. Étienne Montpetit (Valleyfield, QC) saw 41 shots, stopping 34 in the loss. Griffen Outhouse (Williams Lake, BC) stopped 22 of 23 in the victory.

The REDS and Moncton now prepare for the AUS playoffs.

UNB has earned a first-round bye.

The Aigles Bleus will face UPEI in the conference quarter-final round.
