(FREDERICTON, NB) The defending University Cup and Atlantic University Sport champion UNB Reds are adding defenceman Connor Hall ahead of the second half of the 2019-20 AUS regular season.

“It was an easy decision for me,” said Hall. “The success the team has had, on and off the ice, winning numerous national championships and sending guys to pro hockey. That’s why I chose UNB.”

A native of Cambridge, Ontario, Hall is a graduate of five Ontario Hockey League seasons with the Kitchener Rangers.

Hall played 115 regular season games with the Rangers, scoring three goals and assisting on 20 others.

“It’s an early Christmas present,” said Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall. “We were looking for a hard-nosed, strong defensive presence with top-notch pedigree to replace graduating Captain Marcus McIvor, and Connor has those attributes.”

Hall was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round of the 2016 NHL Draft, 77th overall.

He was a member of the team that represented Canada and finished 4th at the 2016 U18 World Championship, in North Dakota.

“It’s unbelievable, becoming a Red,” said Hall. “I want to add to the winning culture here and bring home more national championships.”

“Connor has a competitive edge and is great on the penalty kill and in a shutdown role,” said MacDougall. “He comes from a strong OHL program in Kitchener and has valuable experience at a number of NHL camps.”

Hall will pursue a Business Administration degree will attending UNB.
