(FREDERICTON, NB) Tyler Boland (St. John's, NL) scored twice as the UNB Reds beat the St FX X-Men 6-2 on Saturday night, in the 28th annual Mark Jeffrey Memorial Game.

Boland, currently second in the Atlantic University Sport scoring race, was named the Subway Player of the Game.

The win, UNB's tenth in a row, improves the team's record to 22-and-4.

The X-Men drop to 11-12-3 with the loss.

Before the game the 2019-20 Mark Jeffrey Memorial Scholarship was presented at centre ice to fourth-year Reds forward Mark Simpson (Rothesay, NB).

Brady Gilmour (Grafton, ON) opened the scoring for the Reds just six minutes into the first with a great individual effort for a 1-0 lead.

Stephen Anderson (Morell, PE) would find Boland with just 20.9 seconds left in the period to extend that lead to 2-0 at first intermission.

Mid-way through the second, UNB would hem the X-Men in their zone on the power-play, creating multiple scoring chances before Alexandre Goulet (Disraeli, QC) cleaned up his own rebound to make it 3-0 Reds.

Boland would keep the Reds rolling on the man advantage just 3:22 later, getting his second of the night off yet another flurry of shots on X-Men goaltender Joseph Raaymakers (Chatham, ON).

Regan Spears (Port Hood, NS) would get one back for the X-Men, putting it top corner on Rylan Parenteau (Saskatoon, SK) to make it 4-1.

Matthew Boucher (Los Angeles, Calif.) would restore the four-goal cushion 1:09 later, putting home the Reds third power-play goal of the game.

"That's our goal, when we are out there we want to take advantage of it and capitalize, and we did that tonight," said Reds forward Brady Gilmour, of UNB's power-play prowess.

Matt Murphy (Woodstock, NB) would add one more before the second intermission to make it 6-1 after 40 minutes.

William Bower (Saint John, NB) would get one more for the X-Men with 11.9 remaining in the game to make it a 6-2 final for the Reds.

UNB outshot the X-Men 56-29.

"We haven't played well up here [on UNB's home ice] all year," said X-Men head coach Brad Peddle.

Parenteau made 27 stops to pick up the victory for the Reds, while Raaymakers made 50 saves in a losing effort for the X-Men.

The Reds will be on the road next Friday, visiting Acadia.

The X-Men host the Dalhousie Tigers on Wednesday.
