(FREDERICTON, NB) In the middle of the UNB Reds power surge, the lights went out at the Aitken Centre.

Saturday's game between the Reds and the UPEI Panthers was suspended due to a power outage.

Large parts of the city of Fredericton, including much of UNB's campus, experienced the outage, caused by high winds.

The Reds were leading the Panthers 7-1 with roughly nine minutes left to play in the third period when the arena lost power. After approximately 15 minutes, and with no restoration of power, a decision was made to suspend the game. A decision on resumption or declaring the game will be made later.

Before darkness fell, the Reds looked to have victory in hand.

They started scoring early, and they kept scoring.

At 4:42 of the first period, Alexandre Goulet (Disraeli, QC) put a great shot on net and Oliver Cooper (Fredericton, NB) cleaned up the rebound for his first of the season to make it 1-0 Reds.

Chris Clapperton (Cap d'Espoir, QC) would make it 2-0 just over five minutes later.

The Reds dominated the shot column 18-4 in the opening 20 minutes.

Mark Rassell (Calgary, AB) extended the Reds lead to 3-0 with a powerplay goal just 2:54 into the second.

Cooper would chase Panthers goaltender Simon Holfey (Ottawa, ON), breaking down the wing and finishing with a great move for his second of the game and a 4-0 Reds lead. Matthew Mancina (Windsor, ON) came on in relief for the Panthers.

Clapperton would get his second just under a minute later to make it 5-0.

Mark Simpson (Rothesay, NB) would add the 6-0 goal at 14:12.

Filip Rydstrom (Stockholm, SWE) would get one back for the Panthers, breaking UNB's shutout bid with a power-play goal 45 seconds into the third period.

Tyler Boland (St. John's, NL) would respond shortly after for the Reds, restoring the lead to six.

Then the power outage occurred, eventually suspending the game.

The Reds are back at home next Friday for a matchup with the St FX X-Men. Game time is at 7:00pm.

The Panthers host the Dal Tigers on Friday, in another 7:00pm faceoff.
