Reds Rally To Beat Moncton

(MONCTON, NB) Mark Simpson (Rothesay, NB) scored with six seconds remaining to give the UNB Reds a 5-4 win over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Saturday night.

Simpson's goal, his second of the game, capped a three goal UNB comeback.

Simpson, who recently returned to UNB after attending training camp with the NHL's Washington Capitals, opened the scoring at 4:21 of the first period.

Les Aigles Bleus then responded with two, taking a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Matt Boudens (Pembroke, ON) evened the score early in the second period, before Moncton scored another pair to establish a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Cue the UNB comeback.

Tyler Boland (St. John's, NL) scored at 2:32 of the third period and Boudens, with his second of the game, tied it 4-4 with a goal at 15:57.

Boudens assisted on Simpson's game winner at 19:54 of the third.

Carl Marois (Montmagny, QC) led les Aigles Bleus with a pair of goals while Vincent Deslauriers (Blainville, QC) added a goal and two assists.

UNB outshot Moncton 46-20.

Alex Dubeau (Mascouche, QC) earned the win in the UNB net.

He made nine saves on nine shots in just under 35 minutes of action.

Dubeau replaced starter Rylan Parenteau (Saskatoon, SK), who surrendered four goals on 11 shots in 25 minutes of play.

Alexi Thibaudeau (Gatineau, QC) took the loss in the Moncton net. He made 41 saves.

Moncton hosts St FX on Friday.

The Reds next Atlantic University Sport action is Oct. 12, when they host les Aigles Bleus in a re-match.

UNB travels south of the border next weekend, for an exhibition game at Boston College, on Saturday.
