(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB Varsity Reds doubled the Dalhousie Tigers 6-3, Friday night in Halifax, in a game that saw plenty of scoring and a fast pace.

UNB opened the scoring when Subway Player of the Game Dylan Willick(Prince George, BC) scored on a short-handed breakaway at the 1:37 mark.

The Varsity Reds went up 2-0 on a strange play. Tristan Pomerleau(Riviere-du-Loup, QC) flipped the puck high in the air and it fluttered down, hit the post, and ricocheted into the Dal net. UNB added to the lead when Mike Thomas(New Maryland, NB) took a pass from behind the net and fired it home, giving the Varsity Reds a 3-0 lead after one period.

In the second, Dalhousie got on the board when Reid Murphy(Stittsville, ON) took a nice pass across the slot and put home a wrist shot at 1:46, on the power-play, to make it 3-1.

The Varsity Reds reasserted control when Alexandre Goulet(Disraeli, QC) scored after an extended scramble in front of the Dalhousie net. UNB pushed their lead to four goals when Kris Bennett(Brampton, ON) converted from in close to make it 5-1. And the V-Reds got another before the end of the period when Stephen Anderson(Morell, PE) knocked in a rebound from the side of the net, on the power-play. That gave UNB a 6-1 lead after two periods.

Dalhousie cut into the UNB lead in the third.

Murphy got his second of the night on a rebound at 12:07, on the power-play, to make it 6-2. The Tigers scored again, just five seconds later, when Jonathan Cyr(Ottawa, ON) made the score 6-3. But that's as close as Dal would get.

The Varsity Reds outshot the Tigers 44-16.

Rylan Parenteau(Saskatoon, SK) made 13 saves for UNB, while Corbin Boes(Saskatoon, SK) and Jacob Fancy(Lower Sackville, NS) combined to stop 38 shots for the Tigers.

Both teams are back in action Saturday, at 7:00pm.

UNB visits St FX, while the Tigers host the UPEI Panthers.
