Bennett Hat-Trick Leads UNB Over Moncton

(FREDERICTON, NB) Kris Bennett(Brempton, ON) scored three goals to lead the UNB Varsity Reds to a 6-1 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleus Friday night.

It was the second straight Friday game that Bennett has recorded a multiple point night.

Last Friday, in a 7-2 win over Acadia, the freshman forward had two goals and three assists.

Bennett scored even strength goals at 7:29 of the second period and 16:13 of the third, before adding a power-play goal at 18:36 of the third.

Chris Caissy(Campbellton, NB), Oliver Cooper(Fredericton, NB) and Mike Thomas(New Maryland, NB) also scored for the Varsity Reds, while Stephen Anderson(Morell, PE), Tyler Boland(St. John's, NL) and Mark Simpson(Rothesay, NB) all had two assists.

Jean-Francois Plante(Sherbrooke, QC) scored the lone goal for Moncton, midway through the third period.

Rylan Parenteau(Saskatoon, SK) made 17 saves on 18 shots in the UNB net to earn his second win of the season.

Alexi Thibaudeau(Gatineau, QC) faced 59 shots in the Moncton net, stopping 53.

With the win, UNB improves to 8-0-1 on the season, one point out of first place in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

Moncton falls to 1-7-2, last in the AUS.

Les Aigles Bleus visit Acadia next Friday.

The Varsity Reds are back in action Saturday. They travel to Charlottetown to face the UPEI Panthers in the only game on the AUS schedule. Game time is 7:00pm.
