(MONCTON, NB)  The UNB Varsity Reds scored a 2-0 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Wednesday night, in front of 457 spectators at Moncton's  J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Chris Caissy(Campbellton, NB) opened the scoring, with a power-play goal, in the second period.

Randy Gazzola(Thorold, ON) added an empty net goal, his first of the season, with just 47 seconds to play.

''We give them a lot of shots on goal and our goaltender did an excellent job,'' said Moncton head coach Judes Vallée. ''I did say that our beginning season process was going to take some time to get used to. We came to within a hair of gaining a point or even of winning the game."

UNB outshot Moncton 47-18.

Alex Dubeau(Mascouche, QC) earned the shut-out and his third straight win, while Brandon Thibeau(Riverview, NB) took the loss in the Moncton net.

"Brandon always plays well against UNB and his many saves kept us in the game all evening," said Vallee. "We managed to keep the score tight against a very talented and skilled team."

"We can be proud of our performance tonight," said Thibeau. "We are building in the right direction. The younger players are performing and we will see the results shortly on the scoreboard."

The Aigles Bleus travel to Charlottetown on Friday to meet the UPEI Panthers.

The Varsity Reds will host the Panthers on Saturday. Game time, at the Aitken University Centre, is 7:00pm.
