Lewis To Join Varsity Reds
Transfer will sit out 2016-17 season
(FREDERICTON, NB) Trey Lewis is coming home, or at least closer to home.
The Aldoyne, New Brunswick, native is transferring from St. Francis Xavier University to the University of New Brunswick.
He must sit out the 2016-17 AUS hockey season, but will be eligible to join the Varsity Reds next fall.
“I’m excited,” says Lewis. “The biggest reason I’m transferring is to be closer to home, closer to family and friends.”
Prior to joining the X-Men, Lewis spent four seasons with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads. He served as the team’s captain for two seasons, including 2012-13, when the Mooseheads won the Memorial Cup.
“He’s a gamer,” says Varsity Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall. “We’re getting a proven player.”
“We have the possibility of losing two or three defencemen after this season to graduation or pro, so Trey will have an opportunity to help us.”
Lewis will practice with the Varsity Reds. He’ll also, likely, play some senior hockey this season.
“It’ll definitely be a different experience this season, but heading into next season will be exciting.”
