Signs With Calgary-owned AHL team
(UNDATED) – (With files from the Stockton Heat) - The Stockton Heat, owned by the NHL’s Calgary Flames, have announced that Cam Braes has been added to their roster on an Amateur Tryout.
Braes, 26, is a three-time University Cup champion with the UNB Varsity Reds, winning the cup in 2013, 2016 and last Sunday as UNB took down the University of Saskatchewan 5-3 in the final. Braes recorded 4 goals in the championship game victory.
"Every one of the championships was important,” said Braes, following his final game as a Varsity Red. “The first one was special. I had never won anything big, so it was a good one. The second was important for the program and for us as players. And this time, we are the first UNB team to win championships back-to-back."
“Cam has been a tremendous student athlete for our program ,” said Varsity Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall. “He earned two degrees at UNB, was a five-time Academic All-Canadian, and a top performer and leader on the ice. With three national championships and a silver medal he set a new standard of excellence for our program and made his last game his best, with four goals in the national final “
Braes has joined the Heat on their current road trip. They take on the Texas Stars Saturday, in Ceder Park, Texas.
