(WINNIPEG, MB) – (Source: MANITOBA MOOSE) The Manitoba Moose Hockey Club has announced the team has signed forward Francis Beauvillier to an amateur tryout agreement.
The 23-year-old Beauvillier played 24 games for the UNB Varsity Reds this past regular season, posting 16 points (6G, 10A) and 61 penalty minutes. In a total of nine playoff games, another 3 goals and 2 assists.
In 74 games over three seasons at UNB, Beauvillier totaled 54 points (26G, 28A) and 176 penalty minutes. Beauvillier also claimed two consecutive national championships with the Varsity Reds, winning the University Cup in 2016 and 2017.
Prior to his university career, the Sorel-Tracy, QC native accumulated 205 points (98G, 107A) in 313 QMJHL games. Beauvillier was a sixth round pick, 174th overall, of the Florida Panthers in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He had attended the 2016 fall training camp of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
“I made a great decision to come to UNB and succeed on the ice and in the classroom,” said Beauvillier. “In three years here I will be able to complete my Business degree and have been part of two national championships. Coming to UNB has given me the opportunity to improve my play on the ice and really helped me with my overall confidence.”
“Francis has been a real difference maker with our team,” said Varsity Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall. “He played some of his best hockey at the national championship tournaments. Last year he scored the game-winning goal in the final and this year he was a physical force for our team.”
“He has a lot of passion for the game and it will be exciting for him to get this opportunity in the AHL,” said MacDougall.
