(MONCTON, NB) Philippe Maillet(Terrebonne, QC) had five assists to lead the UNB Varsity Reds in their 6-3 triumph over the U de M Aigles Bleus, in Moncton on Saturday night.

UNB improved to 21-2-3 with the win, while Moncton is now 10-15-1.

The game was played before more than 650 spectators, at J. Louis Levesque Arena.

The Varsity Reds scored three times in a five-minute span of the second period, giving UNB their fourth win over Moncton in as many tries this season.

Cam Braes(Shawnigan Lake, BC) opened the scoring at 6:58 of the first period, a lead UNB would take to the first intermission.

Moncton evened the score early in the second, but Rob Mignardi(Richmond Hill, ON), Dylan Willick(Prince George, BC) and Matt Murphy(Fredericton, NB) scored in quick succession to make it 4-1 and the VReds never looked back.

Moncton scored to make it 4-2 early in the third, but Chris Clapperton(Cap Espoir, QC) replied less than a minute later, restoring UNB's three goal lead.

Jordan Murray(Riverview, NB) would add an empty net goal to round out UNB's scoring.

Alex Dubeau(Mascouche, QC) stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced, as UNB outshot les Aigles Bleus 32-26.

''We cannot be happy with the fact we reduced the scoring difference with the other games, we lost this one,'' said Moncton head coach Serge Bourgeois. "We played well, except for five minutes in the second period. We made an error, lost our focus and they scored three rapid goals."

Moncton travels to Halifax, on Wednesday, to face the Saint Mary's Huskies.

Next up for the Varsity Reds, a Friday night game against the St. FX X-Men, in Antigonish.
