Wall and MacDougall Join ECHL Teams
(FREDERICTON, NB) Two members of the 2016 CIS champion UNB Varsity Reds are joining hockey’s professional ranks.
Defenceman Alex Wall and forward Taylor MacDougall have signed deals with separate East Coast Hockey League teams.
Wall, who scored 5 goals and added 12 assists in 27 regular season games, will join the Adirondack Thunder, an affiliate of the Calgary Flames.
MacDougall, son of Varsity Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall, is joining the Brampton Beast, the Montreal Canadiens’ ECHL affiliate. He had 7 goals and 6 assists in 27 regular season games. MacDougall just completed his fifth and final season with the Varsity Reds.
“Both of them are capable of playing at the next level,” says Coach MacDougall. “They’ve both come off an intense couple of weeks and should be ready to contribute when they’re called upon.”
It could be an interesting weekend for both players, as Adirondack plays host to Brampton, on Saturday and Sunday.
They know life as teammates, and may be about to learn what it’s like to face-off against each other.
