SMU Hands UNB First Regulation Loss

(HALIFAX, NS) The UNB Varsity Reds suffered their first regulation loss of the Atlantic University Sport season, Saturday night, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Saint Mary's Huskies.

UNB is now 8-1-2.

Saint Mary's opened the scoring when Subway player of the game Anthony Repaci(Toronto, ON) scored on a backhand off a pretty pass at 16:45 of the first period to make it 1-0.

The Huskies lit the lamp again when Taylor Burke(Halifax, NS) tallied on the power-play, at 19:53, to extend the lead to 2-0.

In the second period, UNB got one back when Jordan Murray(Riverview, NB) scored on the power-play, cutting the lead to 2-1 after two periods.

In the third, UNB tied the game when Philippe Halley(Quebec City, QC) scored off a rebound in the slot at the 1:15 mark.

The Huskies regained the lead when Austyn Hardie(Montreal, QC) tallied to make the score 3-2. Saint Mary's added a fourth goal. Justin Weller's(Daysland, AB) goal was SMU's third power-play goal of the game.

The Varsity Reds outshot the Huskies 33-30. Cole Cheveldave(Calgary, AB) made 31 saves to get the win for the Huskies. Etienne Marcoux(Terrebonne, QC) stopped 26 shots in goal for the VReds.

The Varsity Reds travel to Antigonish next Friday to face the St. Francis Xavier X-Men, at 7PM.
