VReds Fall In OT

(WOLFVILLE, NS) Kyle Farrell's goal at 3:32 of overtime gave the Acadia Axemen a 4-3 win over the UNB Varsity Reds.

The Axemen are the only team to take points from the VReds this season, having previously taken the extra point in a shootout win two weeks ago.

Farrell's game-winning goal came moments after UNB had killed off a penalty called in the extra frame.

Acadia opened the scoring in the first period, on the power player, when Boston Leier beat Alex Dubeau.

The Varsity Reds scored the next three, to take a 3-1 lead.

Jordan Murray and Rob Mignardi scored first period goals while Alex Wall scored in the second.

Acadia also scored in the second and UNB took a 3-2 lead into the final frame.

Leier's second goal of the game, at 11:06 of the third, tied it 3-3, setting the stage for Farrell's OT winner.

Chris Caissy and Francis Beauvillier each had a pair of assists in the UNB effort, while Dubeau stopped 29 of the 33 shots he faced.

The Varsity Reds remain unbeaten in regulation this season and own an 8-0-and-2 record while Acadia improves to 7-2-and-1.

UNB will be in Halifax on Saturday to face the Saint Mary's Huskies.
