UNB is pleased to announce the addition of former Florida Panthers prospect Francis Beauvillier
The UNB Varsity Reds are pleased to announce the addition of former Florida Panthers prospect Francis Beauvillier to the roster for 2014-15.
The 6'2", 200lb Beauvillier was a former NHL draft pick of the Panthers (Round 6, 2012). He attended the Panthers training camp for the third time this season along with their AHL camp in San Antonio before making his decision to attend UNB.
Francis was a former first-round QMJHL pick of the now-defunct Lewiston Maineiacs of the QMJHL under V-Reds GM Roger Shannon where he was a teammate with current V-Reds captain Cam Critchlow. He played five seasons in the QMJHL with Lewiston, Rimouski, Shawinigan and Rouyn-Noranda, where he had 205 regular season points in over 300 regular season games.
His best season was 30 goals and 32 assists for 62 points in 64 games with Rimouski in 2012-13 - where his teammate was fellow UNB recruit Peter Trainor. That season he also played for the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL where he had two points in eight AHL games.
Beauvillier was also an invitee to the Team Canada World Junior camp and participated in the annual Canada Russia Subway series for the the QMJHL All-Star team.
UNB head coach Gardiner MacDougall was very pleased about the addition of Beauvillier to the line-up, adding "Francis will bring a great deal of speed, skill and physicality to our team and certainly make our team harder to play against. He will fit in very well with our team philosophy and is very excited about this opportunity!"
