The UNB Varsity Reds would like to announce the addition of forward Dion Campbell (Melville, Sask.) to their lineup for the second half of the season. Campbell is a 5th year Education student at UNB who spent four years with the Varsity Reds before deciding to concentrate full time on his studies for the 1st half of the 2012-13 season.
Last season, the speedy Campbell had a career best 8G, 9A, 17 points in 28 games played. He was also recognized as their fittest player in pre-season camp along with being the inaugural winner of the Terry Shannon Memorial Award for the team most under-rated player. During his UNB career, Campbell has helped the team win two National Championships along with three Nationals appearances. He joined UNB after a solid career in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Melville Millionaires and Yorkton Terriers.
“Dion will be a valuable addition to our team especially in terms of veteran leadership, a proven winner and a passion for team fitness and success. He will bring a great deal of speed and additional grit to our line-up and has the ability to play all three forward positions,” commented head coach Gardiner MacDougall . Campbell will make his 2012-13 debut during UNB’s two game mini-series versus Team Russian on December 30th at 3pm in Saint John and at the Aitken Centre on December 31st at 4pm.
