Subway AUS Athlete of the Week

Subway AUS Athlete of the Week

Chris Culligan of the UNB Varsity Reds men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 18, 2012.

Culligan, a fourth-year Kinesiology student from Howie Center, N.S., had a five-point weekend as Varsity Reds improved to 9-3-0 on the season and into a first place tie following a pair of home wins over the Dalhousie Tigers and Acadia Axemen.

In Friday night’s 6-3 win over the Tigers, Culligan was named the player of the game after recording assists on three of the V-Reds’ six goals.

In Saturday’s first place battle with the CIS No. 2-ranked Acadia Axemen, Chris was named the game’s second star after scoring a short-handed goal late in the first period to put UNB up 1-0 after 20 minutes and then setting up line mate Tyler Carroll on the power-play for UNB’s fourth goal of the night to hand Acadia their first road loss of the season.

Chris, the team captain of the two-time defending AUS champions, is currently riding a six-game scoring streak and is second in league scoring with 15 points in 10 games played.
