June 25, 2012
The UNB Varsity Reds men’s hockey program would like to announce that forward Nick MacNeil (Creignish, NS) has been invited to the Phoenix Coyotes’ NHL Summer development camp. The camp is located in Scottsdale, Arizona and runs from June 26 to June 30.
The rangy 6’4” MacNeil had 12-12-24 points in 31 games played for the Varsity Reds and proved to be a key top 6 forward for the 2012 AUS Championship team. He was voted to the AUS All-Rookie team in his debut season at UNB where he had 17 points in 26 regular season games. He had played four years with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles of the QMJHL and had attended the St. Louis Blues, NHL training camp in September, 2010.
“This is an excellent opportunity for Nick to showcase his skills for the Phoenix organization. He has been one of our most improved players the past two seasons and this will definitely give him a performance gauge to continue this improvement for his upcoming third year with our team,” were comments from UNB head coach Gardiner MacDougall.
V-Reds recruit Cam Critchlow will also be attending his first NHL development camp this week in Edmonton.
MacNeil and Critchlow will be among the feature list of instructors for their upcoming Summer Advanced Camp and Pumpernickel Skills Camp scheduled to begin on July 2, 2012.
