V-Reds Have Top Prospects for 2011 NHL Draft
THE UNB V-REDS PROPSECTS youth development program will again have several top prospects available for the upcoming 2011 NHL Draft in Minnesota. After an organizational record breaking 2010 NHL draft where they had a total of 14 former players drafted including an amazing 5 in the 1st round, the V-Reds could have an additional 11 players drafted this year.
Top profile players include Swedish sensation Gabreil Landeskog of the Kitchener Rangers who is ranked # 2 by NHL Central Scouting. Landeskog played with the 1992 V-Reds Prospects team during their 2008 European hockey tour. Right on his heels are D-man Nathan Beaulieu from the Saint John Sea Dogs and Sean Couturier from Drummondville of the QMJHL. Beaulieu is 1 of 4 former V Reds ranked who play with the Memorial Cup Champion Saint John Sea Dogs . Couturier is a long time member of the 92 V Reds team and has had an outstanding Q career being named 2011 league MVP and Top prospect – he was ranked # 1 earlier in the year in several scouting publications .
Other high liters include local Fredericton product Zack Phillips who had an 89 point sophomore season with Saint John and is listed # 15 overall. He was an original 92 Prospect and has attended the complete cycle of UNB Pumpernickel camps. 5 former Senior Advanced camp participants are also listed including Logan Shaw #42, Ryan Tesinki # 47, Aidan Kelly #94 , Brent Andrews # 129, and Garrett Clark # 167.
