UNB Hockey adds Dylan Taylor to Coaching Staff
The UNB Varsity Reds – proud host of the upcoming 2011 CIS National Championships would like to announce the immediate addition of Dylan Taylor to their staff in the role of Director of Player Personnel. Taylor, a resident of Charlottetown, PEI has an extensive playing and coaching background at all levels including the OHL, QMJHL and AUS.
He most recently was the head coach of the UPEI Panthers after a starry four year career as team captain of the Panthers. During his coaching stint, he had done an excellent job in player recruitment and building the nucleus of a current CIS Top 10 contender. As a player, Taylor was the AUS Godfrey award winner and CIS finalist for the distinguished Randy Gregg award. He was a three time winner of the Panther Pride award, an Academic All-Canadian and the winner of several other UPEI awards including The Faculty of Education Distinction as top education student. Prior to UPEI, he had played three seasons in the OHL with Kingston and Oshawa.
Taylor has been involved with the Team Atlantic U-17 program on two occasions; scouted for the Atlanta Thrashers- NHL and pre-scouted for the Moncton Wildcats – QMJHL; was an assistant coach with the PEI Rocket –QMJHL and president of the CIS Hockey Coaches Association. After graduating from UPEI, he had attended the AHL camp of the Hamilton Bulldogs and spent one season with the Indianapolis Ice. He currently is employed by the Eastern School District – Souris, PEI and is completing courses for his Masters degree in Education. He is married with wife Angie, and daughter Ella.
Head coach of the Varsity Reds Gardiner Mac Dougall was always appreciative of Taylor’s enthusiasm and his zest for success as a rival AUS coach and commented, “ We are very excited about the opportunity of having Dylan play a key role in the future growth of our program. He has an outstanding hockey pedigree, is very committed and passionate in everything he does and understands the type of student athletes we need to succeed at the CIS level. He will certainly make a significant difference in the high performance level of our program.” Taylor was equally excited about “the privilege to be part of the UNB organization and motivated by the expectations and high standards of the program.”
UNB’s next home game is the 20th anniversary of the Mark Jeffrey Memorial game on Wednesday, Feb. 9th. The Varsity Reds are on the road this week-end to play StFX on Friday and Saint Mary’s on Saturday. Both are 7:00 pm starts.
