REDS Win Twice On Tuesday
(LETHBRIDGE, AB) After a lop-sided loss to start the U SPORTS Men's Curling Championships in Lethbridge, UNB's Jamie Stewart rink is back on track.
The REDS scored a pair of wins on Tuesday, the second day of competition at the national championship bonspiel.
In Tuesday's first game, the REDS scored three in both the 2nd and 4th ends to build a 6-3 lead on the Ravens. UNB then scored two in the 6th and stole another point in the 7th before shaking hands.
In the late draw, the Stewart rink stole two in the 4th end but gave up three in the 5th to trail 4-2. The teams traded points in the 6th and 7th ends before UNB took two in the 8th end for the 6-5 win.
UNB is now 2-and-1 and in a two-way for third in the standings.
Wednesday sees the REDS facing a pair of Canada West opponents. In their first game, scheduled for 3:30pm Atlantic time, the Stewart rink meets Canada West finalists Calgary. The Dinos were 3-and-0 after completion of play on Tuesday. In the late draw, the REDS will face Canada West champs and defending U SPORTS champs, the Regina Cougars. The Cougars begin Wednesday with an 0-and-3 record. That game is scheduled to begin at 11:30pm Atlantic time.
Thursday, the final day of round robin play, will see the REDS face Brock and host Lethbridge.
