REDS Falter On Friday

(SUDBURY, ON) The UNB REDS dropped a pair of games on Friday, falling to 2-and-3 after five draws at the U SPORTS Men's Curling Championship, in Sudbury, Ontario.

In their first game of the day, UNB fell behind early and couldn't come all the way back in a 7-5 loss to the host Laurentian Voyageurs.

The REDS' Jamie Stewart rink had a chance to score two in the tenth end to force an extra, but couldn't connect.

"That was a tough loss against a strong team," said REDS head coach Lindsey MacKnight. "The team played well and controlled the scoreboard throughout."

On Friday evening, the REDS struggles continued.

They were able to mount a late challenge, scoring a pair in the eighth end, but that was it. UNB fell 9-4 to Queen's.

"It was another really tough game against a really strong team," said Stewart. "We weren't as sharp as we were in our other games and they put the pressure on us."

Following five draws, the REDS are among a group of four rinks at 2-and-3.

UNB wraps up round-robin play on Saturday. The Stewart rink takes on Alberta at 9:30am ADT and Atlantic University Sport rivals Saint Mary's 4:30pm.

Semi-finals and medal games will be played on Sunday.
