REDS Add Big Man Ellison
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS men’s basketball team is adding 6’10” center Tim Ellison in a transfer from the Mount Allison University Mounties, of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Halifax native will join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Tim is a true big man who doesn't mind playing big,” said REDS’ head coach Joe Salerno. “It seems those guys are rarer than ever in this day and age. Coach Chapman and his staff have done a tremendous job with his development at Mount Allison, as Tim has improved immensely during his time there."
In three seasons with the Mounties, Ellison averaged a double-double with 13.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.
He was named ACAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2024, earning 1st team conference all-star honors, and was also named a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association 2nd team all-star.
“The culture that UNB showcases appeals to me as I value a strong sense of community,” said Ellison. “Coach Salerno and the UNB family made me feel welcomed and valued. I look forward to being a part of this family.”
"He is a high-character guy who plays with a high motor for 40 minutes,” said Coach Salerno. “After a tremendous showing at the CCAA national tournament last March, we felt he was ready to make the jump to U SPORTS and be someone who can contribute in his first season with us."
“I’ll bring intensity as a player who is eager to prove myself at the U SPORTS level,” said Ellison. “I’m excited to get to know my teammates on a personal level as that leads to on-court success together.”
Ellison has his sights set on bringing an AUS championship to UNB during his first year with the team and has long-term hopes to continue improving his game and have a chance to play at the next level after his time at UNB is over.
Ellison will study Arts while attending UNB.
