REDS End Regular Season With Win
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS closed out the 2024-25 regular season with a big 89-58 win over the Acadia Axemen in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball play Friday night at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.
The REDS would set the tone in the first two minutes of the game leaping out to an 8-0 lead. Stellar shooting along with excellent defense saw UNB extend their early lead finishing the first quarter up 24-12.
In the second quarter the REDS would keep their momentum going with Marcus Barnes (Kitchener, ON) adding seven points and Brandon Laryea (Crawley, UK) nine. With the help of a 10-0 run late in the second quarter, UNB would end the first half up 19, 46-27.
The third quarter saw more of the same from the REDS.
Eden Otshudi (Hamilton, ON) would connect on two threes for a total of 10 points in the frame. This left the score at 70-40 entering the fourth.
The REDS would hang on to their lead the rest of the way, winning handily, 89-58.
Otshudi led all scorers with 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field.
On Reese Zorogole's (Halifax, NS) senior night he would earn the Tim Horton's Player of the Game award, scoring 10 points.
Laryea contributed with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting.
Ryan Regault (Scarborough, ON) paced the Axemen with 11 points, while Kyle Munro (Timberlea, NS) scored 10 to go with five assists.
This game marks the end of the regular season for both teams.
The Axemen will finish the year in eighth place meaning they will not qualify for the Atlantic University Sport playoffs.
The REDS end their season sitting in fourth place and will see their next action at the AUS Championship Tournament, in Halifax.
