REDS Add Size And Experience
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS men’s basketball team is adding size and experience with the transfer of 7’0” forward Javordo Mitchell.
The 21-year-old, from Woodbridge, Ontario, joins the REDS after spending two seasons at Southeastern Community College, in Iowa.
He’ll join the REDS ahead of the 2023-2024 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Javordo is one of the more athletic big men I’ve seen at this level,” said REDS’ head coach Joe Salerno. “He’s extremely mobile for his size and has the potential to be one of the best rim protectors in the AUS.”
Prior to attending Southeastern College, Mitchell spent time in some of this country’s top prep school programs, including St. Jean de Brebeuf, GTA Prep and Hamilton Prep.
“I hope to complete my academic year at UNB and become an integral part of the team,” said Mitchell. “This is an opportunity for me to improve my skills as a basketball player and help the REDS win.”
“This was a vital role that we needed to fill this off-season and we’re thrilled to get Javordo’s commitment,” said Coach Salerno. “He’s played in a great program the past two seasons, where he’s improved immensely. His ceiling is high and we’re looking forward to helping him continue to develop.”
Mitchell says he’s got the ability to make an impact with the REDS while providing motivation and positivity.
He’ll study Arts while attending UNB.
