REDS Ground Sea-Hawks

(ST. JOHN'S, NL) The UNB REDS dominated in a 104-76 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Saturday, in the first game of their double-header weekend.

The first quarter opened with an exchange of baskets on both sides.

A three-point shot by Marcus Barnes (Kitchener, ON) gave the REDS a five-point lead midway through the quarter, and they were able to extend that lead with strong offensive play.

Near the end of the quarter, UNB was ahead by eight, and led 26-21 after one quarter.

A 7-0 run by the REDS opened the second quarter.

UNB remained strong on offense in the second, helped by a couple of baskets by Mark Tobin (Mount Pearl, NL), establishing a 17-point lead midway through.

Boris Ristanovic (Kragujevac, SER) helped kickstart scoring for the Sea-Hawks, however the REDS still held a 15-point lead as they ended the first half, 53-38. 

The third quarter opened with an 8-0 run by Memorial.

A four-point play and three-pointer from Tobin put the REDS up by 13, midway through the quarter.

A lay-up and three-pointer from Eden Otshudi (Hamilton, ON), near the end of the quarter, gave the REDS their largest lead of the game at 21 points, and the third quarter ended with UNB ahead 77-57.

In the fourth, UNB kept the edge over the Sea-Hawks, and went on to take the game 104-76.

Tobin, a Mount Pearl native, was named Subway Player of the Game.

He scored 20 points and grabbed four rebounds.

Norm Burry (Grafton, NB) led the REDS with 23 points, while Otshudi had 16. Barnes added 14 and Jeven Eddy (Ajax, ON) scored 13.

Memorial's Emmanuel Ring (St. John's, NL) led all scorers with 28 points.

The REDS and Sea-Hawks conclude their weekend series on Sunday. Game time is scheduled for 1:30pm Atlantic time.
