(FREDERICTON, NB) The Saint Mary's Huskies beat the UNB REDS 77-71 in Atlantic University Sport men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Huskies guard Shae Brown (Toronto, ON) and REDS forward Norm Burry (Grafton, NB) led all scorers with 23 points each. Brown was named Subway Player of the Game.

The REDS struggled in the opening minutes, unable to score until after the two-minute mark when Burry put away a three-point jump shot. Both teams challenged back and forth throughout the remaining eight minutes, wrapping up the quarter with the REDS trailing the Huskies 20-18.

The second quarter was close throughout, with the score tied 38-38 at the half.

The REDS were able to pull ahead of the Huskies, closing out the third quarter with a 59-56 lead.

"I think there were a number of guys that really came off the bench and gave us a lot of energy," said Burry. "One of them was Eden Otshudi. He came off the bench with a lot of energy, he was good at the rim, and had good shots".

Otshudi's six points during the third quarter supported the REDS lead going into the fourth.

The REDS were not able to maintain their lead during the final quarter and Saint Mary's took the win, 77-71.

"It was definitely a tough one to lose after coming off of a strong win last night," said Burry. "I think our defense was really struggling today, easy blow-byes to the rim. We are a team that relies heavily on the free ball, and we weren't there today with that".

Jayrell Diggs (East Preston, NS) scored 19 points and had nine rebounds for the Huskies, while Otshudi (Hamilton, ON) and Vegas Evans (Brampton, ON0 each put away 11 for the REDS.

The Huskies next action is Thursday, when they visit Acadia.

The REDS will travel to UPEI on Friday for an 8:00pm start in a four-point game.
