(ST. JOHN'S, NL) The Memorial Sea-Hawks beat the UNB Reds 86-72 in the 2019-20 Atlantic University Sport season opener for both sides.

Cole Long (St. John's, NL) scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Sea-Hawks, while Chris Spurrell (Quispamsis, NB) had 23 for the Reds.

All five Sea-Hawks starters scored in double digits.

The home team started slow, but fashioned a 42-36 lead at the half.

UNB's first half scoring was evenly distributed, with Spurrell and Tyrell Leotaud (Ajax, ON) each firing eight points.

Looking to claw back into the game, the Reds struggled from long range, going 1-for-5 from the three-point line in the third quarter.

Memorial's solid defence seemed to rattle the Reds, who couldn't muster much offence down the stretch, and the Sea-Hawks pulled away.

The two teams meet again Sunday afternoon, in a game scheduled for a 1:30pm (Atlantic) start.
