Hurricanes Claim Garland Title

(FREDERICTON, NB) The Holland College Hurricanes took the 2018 Eric Garland Tournament title with a 78-73 win over the host UNB Reds, Saturday night.

Tournament MVP Jace Colley (East Preston, NS) scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Hurricanes.

Defensively, Martin Campbell (Prince George's County, MD) grabbed 12 rebounds for Holland College.

Freshman Mush Puok (Calgary, AB) scored 16 points to lead the Reds, while Daniel Pitcher (Sydney, Aus.), Daniel Levitt (Montreal, QC) and Tyrell Leotaud (Toronto, ON) each added 10 points.

Chris Spurrell (Quispamsis, NB) pulled down 12 rebounds for UNB.

Levitt and Puok were named tournament all stars, along with the Hurricanes' Roosevelt Whyley (Nassau, Bah.), Mount Allison's Aram Currie (Riverview, NB), and Troy Williams (La Grande, OR), of the University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals.

The Hurricanes had the Reds on the run early, taking a 16-10 lead after one quarter.

Holland College added to their lead in the second quarter and led 39-22 at the half.

The Reds rallied in the second half, pulling to within three points, but couldn't close the gap completely.

The Reds continue their exhibition schedule on October 12th, when they face the Gaels, at Queen's University.
