Noah McCarthy To Join Varsity Reds
FHS star signs Letter of Intent
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds will add guard Noah McCarthy, beginning in the 2018-19 season.
McCarthy has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and is excited to be joining the V-Reds.
“From the first time we talked, the coaching staff at UNB made me feel like they really wanted me to be part of the future of the program,” says McCarthy, who is playing his final year of high school basketball with the Fredericton High School Black Kats, after transferring from the John Caldwell School Golden Knights, in his hometown of Grand Falls.
“The rich basketball tradition at UNB and the chance to play in front of family for the next five years made joining the Varsity Reds the right decision,” says McCarthy.
McCarthy was a member of New Brunswick’s U17 Canada Games team last summer.
With the Black Kats, he’s averaging 20 points and more than five rebounds per game. In one tournament final, McCarthy scored a whopping 37 points to lead FHS to the title.
“Noah has excelled at every level he’s played at, and we expect that trend to continue at UNB,” says Varsity Reds head coach Brent Baker. “His work ethic should put him in the mix for playing time as a freshman.”
McCarthy has yet to decide, but is weighing studying Arts or Business at UNB.
