(SYDNEY, NS) Javon Masters(Kitchener, ON) scored a game-high 32 points to lead the UNB Varsity Reds to a 100-74 win over the Cape Breton University Capers, Friday night, in Sydney.
Masters is now third on the unofficial U SPORTS career scoring list, with 2181 points. He's just 101 points shy of Boris Bakovic's mark of 2282. Bakovic played four season at Ryerson and a fifth at Calgary.
Masters needs just two points to move into second on the national career scoring list.
Ibrahima Doumbouya(Calgary, AB) had 11 points, the only other Varsity Red to have a double digits point total.
Paul Watson(Mississauga, ON) was the top scorer for the Capers, with 19.
The Varsity Reds outscored CBU 32-19 in the first quarter, and UNB was able to keep that early momentum throughout the game.
Masters, who was named the Subway Player of the Game, also had nine rebounds.
With the win, the Varsity Reds improve to 9-1 and continue to sit atop the Atlantic University Sport standings.
The Capers are now 2-8.
The teams meet again Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
