Athlete Institute Grad Chooses UNB
Leotaud is a versatile forward/guard
(FREDERICTON, NB) Tyrell Leotaud is a product of a basketball player machine.
Leotaud is a graduate of Ontario’s Athlete Institute Prep, the same school that produced Jamal Murray, a recent 7th overall NBA draft pick of the Denver Nuggets.
Leotaud, a 6’5” forward/guard, has signed a CIS Letter of Intent and has joined the Varsity Reds.
"I am looking forward to bringing success to the team,” says Leotaud. “I chose UNB, and playing for Coach Baker, because it was a great fit for my family and me. The Fredericton campus is nice and the facilities really attracted me to the program."
The Ajax, Ontario, native played the previous two seasons at Athlete Institute Prep, in Orangeville, Ontario, averaging 6.5 points, 2.2 assists and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Along with AI Prep, Leotaud has played summer and spring basketball with the prestigious Northern Kings club program.
“Tyrell’s versatility is a huge addition to our line-up,” says Varsity Reds head coach Brent Baker. “His ability to play and guard multiple positions definitely makes him a player that should get on the floor for ample playing time in his first year.”
The Varsity Reds open their exhibition schedule on Friday, September 30th, when they host the Saint Mary’s Huskies, in the first game of the annual Eric Garland Tournament.
