From KV To The Currie Center
(FREDERICTON, NB) Chris Spurrell is trading his Crusaders blue and white for Varsity Red.
The 18-year old guard, who helped the Kennebecasis Valley High School Crusaders to the 2016 NBIAA AAA championship game, has signed a CIS Letter of Intent to join the UNB Varsity Reds.
“I hope to challenge myself on the court and in the classroom,” said Spurrell. “I hope to be a big contributor to the basketball program throughout my time at UNB.”
Standing 6’3”, Spurrell has been playing basketball since the age of 4.
He’s been a part of Basketball New Brunswick’s provincial program for several years, playing with BNB’s U15, U16 and U17 squads, and was selected as the NBIAA’s Southwest Player of the Year this past season.
“We feel Chris is one of the top three CIS prospects coming out of New Brunswick this year,” said Varsity Reds head coach Brent Baker. “He had an outstanding season, leading his team to the high school championship game, at Harbour Station.”
Spurrell plans to study business.
Coach Baker says, on the court, Spurrell will be all business.
“His upside is that he has CIS athleticism, and shoots the ball on perimeter at a high percentage, with range.”
