(WOLFVILLE, NS) Fittingly, it happened on a free throw.

Javon Masters became the leading regular season scorer in UNB men's basketball history Friday, when he sank a second quarter free throw.

The point was the 1536^th of Masters' career, one better than the old mark.

Scott Devine scored 1535 regular season points over a five year career, from 1978-79 through 1982-83.

Masters is already the AUS career leader in free throws made.

Masters' Varsity Reds fell 103-88 to the Acadia Axemen, but his game high 40 points gives him 1562 points. That's good for the UNB career mark and 13^th spot on the Atlantic University Sport list.

"It's special, honestly," said Masters, following the game.

"I have to thank my parents, for all their support, but I've got to thank our coaching staff and the university for accepting me with open arms and allowing me to do what I do, and play my game."

Masters was also quick to acknowledge his teammates.

"For always being there for me, even if I'm having an off game, they're still with me, no matter what. They're my family, pretty much."

Happy to own UNB's career scoring record, Masters wasn't pleased with the loss. "We didn't really execute on both ends," he said.

"We've got some time to clean some stuff up before going to Halifax, in two weeks."

The Varsity Reds will participate in the Subway AUS Championship tournament, in Halifax, March 4^th-6^th.

UNB wraps up the regular season next weekend, at home.

They host the UPEI Panthers, on Friday, and Acadia, on Saturday.

Both games tip off at 8:00PM.
