UNB Earns Split At MUN

(ST. JOHN'S, NL) The UNB Varsity Reds were able to earn a split in their weekend series with the Memorial Sea-Hawks, beating MUN 99-96 on Sunday afternoon.

The Varsity Reds started the game on a roll from the three-point line, going 3 for 5 in the frame. Mark Matheson led the charge by dropping in 10 points for the Reds, which gave UNB a 24-16 lead after one quarter.

UNB controlled the play for the majority of the second quarter and held a 14-point margin at one point.

Memorial's Daniel Gordon was able to hit a buzzer beating 3-point shot to close the margin to 11 going into the half... UNB up 49-38.

The Sea-Hawks were able to regroup for the second half, outscoring the Varsity Reds 28-17 in the third quarter and tying the game at 66.

The fourth quarter was entertaining, as both teams traded baskets.

UNB was led by guard Javon Masters, who scored 15 of his 33 points in the final frame.

In the end, the Varsity Reds prevailed 99-96.

Masters lead all scorers with his 33. Matt Daley finished with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

Memorial was led by Vasilije Curcic, who finished with 28 points and 9 rebounds.

The Varsity Reds return home next weekend for a two games against the Saint Mary's Huskies. The Sea-Hawks take the road and face the Cape Breton Capers.
