Men's basketball welcomes Haroun Mohamed
The Varsity Reds men's basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of Haroun Mohammed from Toronto, Ontario.
The 6'3", 175lb Mohammed comes to UNB off a great run with the John Polanyi Collegiate Jaguars and DeenUP Varsity Basketball Club in the AAU, where he had the opportunity to be coached by former UNB V-Red Adeel Sahibzada.
As a high school player with the Jaguars, Mohammed was a force to be reckoned with out on the court, racking up an average of 22.5 points,7 rebounds and 3 steals per game. In the AAU, he averaged 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game.
UNB men's basketball head coach Brent Baker says Mohammed is a committed young man who will be a great fit with the Varsity Red program.
"Haroun will bring the ability to guard 94 feet from the basket and some much needed tenacity at the defensive end of the court," Baker says.
He also thinks Mohammed will fit right in with the team's mentality.
"He loves the weight room and is a real gym rat."
The men's basketball home season gets underway this year on November 7th, when they meet Acadia.
