V-Reds get second win of the weekend
The UNB Varsity Reds defeated the UPEI Panthers by a score of 103-91, in a rematch of last night's tilt.
The second quarter continued with even shooting from both teams, matching shot for shot to reach a 29-29 score. UNB pulled in front with a couple jump shots from forward Jordan Irvine providing a 36-29 lead. Deontay Smith of UPEI fought back from distance adding two to his game high 33 points. The momentum came back into UNB's favour with a huge three point shot, from Mark Matheson expanding the lead to 42-34. The Panthers pushed back, capitalizing on foul trouble to end the half behind one, 44-43.
The fourth quarter was sparked from the foul line with a huge breakaway slam-dunk from Masters. Quirion continued the momentum, drawing a foul while laying in the ball to capitalize on a three point play giving the V-Reds an 83-71 lead. The V-Reds continued the heavy pressure with Daly breaking through to lay it in, lifting the score to 92-75. UPEI, playing desperate defence forced UNB to make mistakes and fought to a 94-83 tally. Led by Masters, UNB gave UPEI no quarter and finished victorious 103-91.
Next up for the V-Reds, is a trip to Wolfville to take on Acadia, November 22nd, tip off at 8:00pm.
