Dylan Baker chimed in with a three and a jump shot of his own to get the V-Reds close, 15-11. With 19 seconds remaining in the quarter Baker added another three-pointer to get the Varsity Reds within one; 19-18.

The second quarter continued with even shooting from both teams, matching shot for shot to reach a 29-29 score. UNB pulled in front with a couple jump shots from forward Jordan Irvine providing a 36-29 lead. Deontay Smith of UPEI fought back from distance adding two to his game high 33 points. The momentum came back into UNB's favour with a huge three point shot, from Mark Matheson expanding the lead to 42-34. The Panthers pushed back, capitalizing on foul trouble to end the half behind one, 44-43.

In the third quarter, the Varsity Reds passed the ball effectively and were able to secure most of the boards enabling them to shoot with more confidence. Javon Masters sank a huge three under pressure to push the V-Reds to a 64-55 lead. Masters made another three-point-play to further the lead, 70-62. UPEI clawed back to 70-67 on a three from Brian Offori. As the buzzer sounded at the end of the quarter UNB's Matt Daly added another three, carrying a 75-69 lead into the final frame.

The fourth quarter was sparked from the foul line with a huge breakaway slam-dunk from Masters. Quirion continued the momentum, drawing a foul while laying in the ball to capitalize on a three point play giving the V-Reds an 83-71 lead. The V-Reds continued the heavy pressure with Daly breaking through to lay it in, lifting the score to 92-75. UPEI, playing desperate defence forced UNB to make mistakes and fought to a 94-83 tally. Led by Masters, UNB gave UPEI no quarter and finished victorious 103-91.

Coach Brent Baker was thrilled with the way his team played, especially their perimeter shooting. "Down the stretch we got a lot of shots from key guys, they played a more zone type game which lends itself to a perimeter shooting game. We're ranked third or something in AUS for three-point shooting; it was nice to see our guys step up."

Next up for the V-Reds, is a trip to Wolfville to take on Acadia, November 22nd, tip off at 8:00pm.
