Top Australian hoop prospect joins V-Reds
April 29, 2013
The UNB Varsity Reds Men’s Basketball Program is pleased to announce that Dylan Baker of Melbourne, Australia, will be joining the squad for the upcoming 2013-2014 season.
As a 6’5” wing for the Dandenong Rangers of the Rowville Sports Academy, Dylan received the prestigious 2012 Victorian Sports Award for Basketball.
Rowville head coach Alex Palazzolo had this to say, “Dylan’s key strengths offensively are his ability to get out in the open floor on transition, penetration to the rim with a pull up jump shot as well as hitting the three. He is a solid defender and rebounder and is extremely athletic.”
He was named the MVP of Victoria for the Victorian Metro School State team that competed at the national championships in Melbourne and he currently trains at the Andrew Bogut Post Graduate Academy.
UNB head coach Brent Baker is excited that Dylan will be joining the Varsity- Reds.
“Dylan is the type of student-athlete that we are looking for at UNB. He is an honors student, a leader in the classroom and on the court. His hardnosed, hard driving style will be a welcome addition to our squad.”
“Dylan is a true ‘three’, continued Baker. “He possesses the ability to finish in transition, stretch the defense with his shooting range, and defend multiple perimeter players.”
Dylan will be studying in the UNB Faculty of Kinesiology for a Bachelor of Recreation and Sport Studies.
