The Varsity Reds defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies, 95-70, at the Richard J. CURRIE CENTER in front of a hometown crowd of 945 and now sit in fifth place in the AUC with a total of 12 points.
This was the first of two four-point games up for grab on the weekend for the V-Reds as they take on the UPEI Panthers on Saturday night who sit just two points above UNB in the standings.
The V-Reds hit the court with energy and enthusiasm against the Huskies. Dominating off the tip, UNB hit for six points in a row. With the bench stepping up, out rebounding and out hustling the Huskies, it was one of their strongest defensive games of the season.
In the first quarter the Varsity Reds outscored the Huskies 29-14 sinking over 50% of their attempts.
UNB’s player of the game, William McFee with 30 points and 5 rebounds stepped up to the plate, having a bench of only nine players, McFee took his time on the court and made it count, moving the ball with excellent communication between teammates.
At the end of the first half the score was 53-27 in favour of the V-Reds.
In the third quarter, the UNB controlled the pace and stayed on top of the Huskies with the third quarter ending 71-46.
The fourth quarter much like the third; UNB continued to play tenacious defence racking up a total 32 defensive rebounds for the game, and the win 95-70.
