As the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams prepare to play their first home games in the much anticipated RICHARD J. CURRIE CENTER a group of individuals have been working very hard to give court sport home games a special experience.

Beginning this year all UNB students will have free admission to UNB home games.  To add to their game day experience the “Red Brigade” club has been created to support all Varsity Reds teams.  More than 400 students have signed up to be a part of the Brigade which includes special seating, t-shirt identification, face painting and other special privileges throughout the season.

The state of the art RICHARD J. CURRIE CENTER performance court is equipped with video screens which will be used to highlight our student-athletes, for action replay and graphics, as well as to display corporate logos and upcoming game announcements.

Special “Theme Nights” have also been identified for the 2011-12 season and will include Armed Forces Day on November 12th as men’s volleyball take on the Dalhousie Tigers and the basketball teams both host Memorial University.  The Varsity Reds annual “Think Pink” event will take place on February 3rd and 4th.

Michael J. Lavigne, Vice President of Business Development for Accreon Inc has been instrumental in leading the group of volunteers and staff who will make the RICHARD J. CURRIE CENTER exhilarating events to attend in addition to watching first class basketball and volleyball on the court.

Michael believes that this is an exciting time for UNB Athletics and its sports teams and commented, “Showcasing basketball and volleyball at the world class RICHARD J. CURRIE CENTER this year creates an unprecedented opportunity to cultivate buzz and excitement around this year’s teams.  We have thousands of alumni and students in the area who bring an affinity for UNB and UNB Sports in particular. The program we are putting in place this year will ensure a great fan experience for students, alumni and families."
