REDS Stumble In Season Opener
(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE) The UNB REDS men’s football team began defence of their Atlantic Football League title on a down note, dropping a 20-11 decision to Holland College, in Charlottetown, last Saturday.
The REDS struggled to get their offence going, but did manage the game’s first score on a quarterback sneak by Jonah Rawlines.
The Hurricanes struggled too. Their only first half points came on a safety and a field goal, and the teams went to the half-time break with UNB up 10-5.
The REDS only point of the second half came on a missed field goal in the third quarter.
The home team then scored ten unanswered points in the fourth to win 20-11.
The 1-and-0 Hurricanes return to action Sunday when they host Dalhousie.
The 0-and-1 REDS play their home opener on Saturday night. UNB will take on the Saint John Falcons, a team that suffered a 69-0 loss to Dal last weekend.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 7:00pm kick-off at UNB’s BMO Centre.
