(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS were proud to participate in the 2021 Fredericton Pride Parade, Saturday, through the streets of downtown Fredericton.

Estimates vary, but about 2000 people lined the parade route.

Members of the REDS women’s soccer team, women’s swimming team, women’s and men’s basketball teams, and women’s and men’s hockey teams, as well as members of the REDS administration group all took part.

Under blue skies and sunshine, the REDS joined dozens of other groups in the hour-long highlight of Fredericton’s Pride Week, an extended celebration of diversity, tolerance and inclusion.

“This was the third time in four years that our group took part in the parade,” said REDS Communications Manager Andy Campbell. “We missed not having a parade last year, due to the pandemic, so it was great to see so many of our teams engaged in this year’s celebration.”

“This is one of the many ways our student-athletes give back to the community that supports them during their competition seasons,” said Campbell. “It speaks to the commitment these young leaders have to their individual teams, the University, and the community.”
