Talia Nixon, of the women’s volleyball team, is the UNB REDS/Papa John’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week.
The first-year outside hitter played a critical role as the REDS swept their weekend series of the Dalhousie Tigers, a team UNB is locked in a tight battle with in the Atlantic University Sport standings.
On Friday, in a 3-1 win, Nixon recorded 14 kills on .324 hitting percentage, added seven digs, and scored a total of 17.5 points.
In Saturday’s thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory, Nixon registered 14 kills and 16 digs, and scored 16 points.
She was named Player of the Game in both matches.
“I thought Talia had her best weekend thus far in her young university career,” said REDS’ interim head coach John Richard. “We’re asking her to do a lot of things as a first-year student-athlete against many teams who are much more experienced than ours. She’s a tremendous athlete and is quickly learning the game at this level.”
Nixon and her REDS teammates resume their regular season schedule on February 9th and 10th, when they visit league-leading Acadia.
