Sydney Oitomen, of the women’s hockey team, is the UNB REDS/Papa John’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row.
The veteran forward was a key contributor to the REDS earning a third consecutive Atlantic University Sport championship.
In UNB’s 2-1 double-overtime victory over STFX, Oitomen set up the game-tying goal, mid-way through the third period, scored the game winner, and was named MVP of the AUS women’s hockey playoffs.
“She’s on a mission and is a difference-maker for us,” said REDS interim head coach Kyle MacDonald. “Her compete, determination, and grit has been contagious.”
Oitomen and her REDS teammates now prepare for the U SPORTS Championship tournament, in Saskatoon, March 13-17. They’ll be the third seed and will open the tournament against the No. 6 University of Toronto.
