Lily George, of the women’s hockey team, is the UNB REDS/Papa John’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week.
George registered a pair of assists as the REDS split weekend road games. One of George’s assists made her the all-time leading scorer in UNB women’s hockey history.
In Friday’s 4-2 win at Saint Mary’s, George assisted on the team’s first goal, her 81st career regular season point. That moved her into sole possession of top spot on the program’s career scoring list.
“Lily added to the UNB women’s hockey legacy by surpassing the all-time points record,” said REDS’ interim head coach Kyle MacDonald. “Lily is such a humble leader. Despite the magnitude of the record, you could tell how focused she was on us winning that game. She played big minutes for us this weekend on the power-play and penalty kill.”
George and her teammates conclude their first semester schedule with a pair of home games this week. Wednesday, they host Moncton. On Saturday, the REDS play host to UPEI.
